A morning at home: four English words with pictures and recall
bed・toothbrush・shirt・coffeeを、家で過ごす朝の場面から学びます。イラスト、役立つ表現、絵からの想起と絵なしの四つの問題で練習しましょう。
起きてベッドを整え、歯ブラシを取り、シャツを着て、出かける前にコーヒーを入れる。身近な四つのものを、別々の訳ではなく、思い浮かべられる短い物語として学びましょう。
You wake up, tidy your bed, find your toothbrush, put on a shirt and make coffee before leaving. These four objects form a short story you can picture instead of four separate translations.
最初は絵を見て、役立つ英語表現を一つずつ学びます。次は手がかりを外して思い出してみましょう。まず日本語の説明を読み、必要なら対訳の英語を隠せます。練習する英文はそのまま表示されます。
Start with the pictures and useful English phrases, then try recalling the words without them. Read the explanation in your language first; the supporting English can be hidden while the teaching sentences remain visible.
絵を見て、自分で思い出す
まず、それぞれの絵と単語、短い表現をつなげます。その後、文字を隠して、答えを見る前にものの名前を言ってみてください。見覚えがあることと、自分で単語を思い出せることは別の課題です。
First, connect each picture with its word and one useful phrase. Then cover the words and try naming each object before revealing the answer. Looking familiar and being able to produce the word are different tasks.
最後は絵を外し、別の場面で空欄を埋めます。答えを確認する前に、一度自分で考えましょう。次の学習時間には、自分の朝について新しい文を作ってみてください。思い出しやすさに合わせて、復習までの間隔を調整してかまいません。
The final check removes the pictures and changes the context. Try completing each sentence before checking it. Return in a later study session and say a new sentence about your own morning; adjust the gap to how easily you can recall the words.

bed/bed/1. 起きて寝具を整える：bed
ベッド：寝るために使う家具。
bedは寝るためのベッドです。make my bedは新しい家具を作ることではなく、掛け物や枕を整えること。make the bedをひとまとまりで覚えましょう。眠ったあとにベッドから出ることはget out of bedと言えます。自分のベッドを想像し、朝食前にすることを一文にしてみてください。
Bed is the furniture you sleep on. Make my bed means tidy its covers and pillows, not build a new piece of furniture. Learn make the bed as a phrase. Get out of bed describes leaving it after sleeping.

toothbrush/ˈtuːθ.brʌʃ/2. 洗面台のそばの道具：toothbrush
歯ブラシ：歯をきれいにするための小さなブラシ。
toothbrushは歯ブラシです。my toothbrushは道具の名前、brush my teethは歯を磨く動作を表します。ここで学ぶ文では、toothbrushを動作の名前として使わないようにしましょう。複数ならtoothbrushesです。道具と、それを使ってすることを一緒にメモしてみてください。
A toothbrush is the object used to clean your teeth. Brush my teeth names the action, while my toothbrush names the object. The plural is toothbrushes. Keep the object and its action together in your word note.

shirt/ʃɜːrt/3. 出かける前に着るもの：shirt
シャツ：上半身に着る服で、通常は袖、襟、ボタンがあるもの。
絵は、襟と袖、前にボタンのある青いシャツです。put on a shirtはシャツを着ること。ボタンを留めるならbutton my shirtとも言えます。a clean shirtをa blue shirtやmy favourite shirtに替えて、自分の服に近い文を作ってみましょう。
The picture shows a blue shirt with a collar, sleeves and buttons. Put on a shirt means dress in it. You can also learn button my shirt for fastening its buttons. Add a colour or a detail to make the phrase more specific.

coffee/ˈkɑː.fi/4. 出発前に飲み物を用意する：coffee
コーヒー：焙煎して挽いたコーヒー豆から作る飲み物。
coffeeはコーヒー、make coffeeはコーヒーを入れることです。一杯と言いたいならa cup of coffeeが使えます。飲み物を一般的に言う場合は通常数えませんが、注文などではa coffeeが一杯分を表すこともあります。「絶対にaを付けない」ではなく、場面と一緒に覚えましょう。
Coffee names the drink. Make coffee means prepare it. Learn a cup of coffee when you want to name one cup. Coffee is usually uncountable when referring to the drink in general, but a coffee can refer to one serving when ordering.
