見て、聞いて、声に出そう。

忙しい一日の三つの場面:服装を変え、お気に入りの飲み物を語り、贈り物の遅れを説明します。

いつものピアスを変える。気に入った飲み物を繰り返し注文する。贈り物が遅れた理由を説明する。日常には、具体的な英語表現を使う場面がたくさんあります。

Changing your usual earrings, ordering a new favourite drink again, and explaining why a gift arrived late: an ordinary day gives you plenty of reasons to use specific expressions.

VLOG ★ a busy day in my lifeでは、Sydney Serenaがこうした出来事を自然な英語で語ります。三つの場面でswitch it up、on rotation、in advance、held upの四つを練習し、最後にすべて思い出してみましょう。

In VLOG ★ a busy day in my life, Sydney Serena talks about these moments in conversational English. This lesson uses three situations to practise four phrases: switch it up, on rotation, in advance and held up. All four appear again in the recall questions at the end.

話し手が何を伝えたいかを聞くListen for what the speaker is trying to do

1:45ではいつものフープピアスから雰囲気を変えたいと話します。2:24では季節の飲み物を気に入り、しばらくよく注文しそうだと考えています。6:46からは、早めに買ったのに間に合わなかった友人への贈り物の話です。

At 1:45, Sydney talks about her usual hoop earrings and wanting to change her look. At 2:24, she has just tried a seasonal drink and thinks she will order it regularly. From 6:46, the story turns to gifts for friends: she bought them early, but they still did not arrive in time.

一つの場面を選び、最初は日本語で要点を説明しましょう。何を変えたいのか、何を繰り返し選ぶのか、どんな遅れを説明しているのか。その後で個々の英語表現を確認します。

On your first listen, choose one passage and explain the main idea in Japanese: What does the speaker want to change, which choice will she repeat, or what delay is she explaining? Then look at the individual English phrases.

英語字幕はYouTubeの書き起こしに沿っており、言いよどみや行をまたぐ文も含みます。日越の訳はMemiが作成し、表示時刻は秒単位の目安です。メモの例文は別に作った練習文です。

The captions preserve the wording in the YouTube transcript, including hesitations and sentences split across lines. Vietnamese and Japanese translations are by Memi; the displayed timestamps are approximate to the second. The sentences on the note cards are new practice examples.

Switch it up:いつもの選択を変えるSwitch it up: make a change from your usual choice

ピアスを選ぶ場面で、Sydneyは普段と違うものにしたいと考えています。switch it upは、いつもの行動や選択に変化をつけるときなどに使います。

While choosing earrings, Sydney wants to change her usual choice. Switch it up describes this kind of change, often to add some variety to what you normally do.

itは何を指すか考えましょう。Vlogではアクセサリーの選択ですが、自分の文では服の色、朝食、通勤ルートにもできます。意味だけでなく、何を変えたいのかも覚えます。

When you hear it, ask: “What does it refer to?” In the vlog, it refers to a jewellery choice. In your sentence, it could be a shirt colour, breakfast or the route to work. Keep track of what the speaker wants to change as well as the general meaning of the phrase.

状況から英語を思い出す

毎日黒い服なので、今日は違う色を着たいと思っています。

You wear black every day. Today, you want to try a different look.

I wear black every day. Today, I want to __________.

答えと使い方を見る
switch it up

いつものやり方や選択を変えること。

Make a change from a familiar approach or choice.

I wear black every day. Today, I want to switch it up.

毎日黒を着ています。今日はいつもと変えたいです。

itが何を指すかを意識しましょう。この練習ではいつもの選択を変える意味です。

Switch it up fits a change from a familiar choice. To make the change specific, add a sentence explaining it, such as trying a different shirt colour.

On rotation:繰り返し選ぶお気に入りOn rotation: a new favourite you keep choosing

2:24では、新しい飲み物がおいしく、しばらくよく注文しそうだと話しています。日常のお気に入りを語るon rotationの一例です。

At 2:24, Sydney says the new drink was delicious and may become something she orders regularly for a while. This is one way to use on rotation when talking about everyday favourites.

飲み物から、週に何度も聞く曲にも応用できます。何を繰り返し選ぶかを明確にしましょう。この場面から、飲み物を固定の順番で交代していると考える必要はありません。

You can move from drinks to music: a group of songs you play repeatedly during the week. Say clearly what you keep choosing. In the vlog situation, there is no need to assume that Sydney follows a fixed schedule for alternating drinks.

状況から英語を思い出す

今週は同じお気に入りの曲を何度も聞いています。

You keep listening to the same three songs throughout the week.

These three songs are __________ this week.

答えと使い方を見る
on rotation

お気に入りとして繰り返し選ぶこと。

Used, played or chosen regularly for a period of time.

These three songs are on rotation this week.

今週はこの3曲を繰り返し聞いています。

on rotationは繰り返し選ぶ物について使えます。必ず決まった交代順があるという意味ではありません。

On rotation can also describe things or songs that you choose repeatedly. The context tells you whether you mean one favourite or a group of choices.

In advance:出来事より前に準備するIn advance: preparing before something happens

贈り物の話では、普段は早めに準備すると説明します。6:46と6:54を続けて聞きましょう。最初の字幕末尾がin、次の冒頭がadvanceです。字幕の区切りは表現の切れ目とは限りません。

In the gift story, Sydney explains that she usually prepares early. Listen to the lines at 6:46 and 6:54 together: in ends the first line, and advance begins the next. A caption boundary is not always the end of a phrase.

何より前かを意識しましょう。贈り物なら渡す機会、チケットなら公演、予約なら到着する日です。下の練習では贈り物をチケットに置き換え、別の場面でも使います。

Keep the relevant event in mind: before what? For gifts, it is the occasion when you want to give them; for tickets, the show; for a reservation, the day you arrive. The practice sentence below changes gifts to tickets so you can reuse the phrase in another situation.

状況から英語を思い出す

すぐに売り切れる公演のチケットを、開催日より前に購入しました。

The show often sells out. You bought your tickets before the day of the performance.

The show sells out quickly, so I bought the tickets __________.

答えと使い方を見る
in advance

ある出来事より前に、あらかじめ。

Before the time when something happens.

I bought the tickets in advance.

チケットは前もって買いました。

in advanceは何かが起きる前に行うことです。この文ではチケットを使う日より前を表します。

In advance describes preparing before a particular event or time. In the new example, the tickets were bought before the show.

Held up:準備したのに遅れた理由Held up: why did something arrive late despite early preparation?

7:02〜7:19では、郵便局での遅れにより贈り物が間に合っていません。in advanceは早めの準備、held upはその後に進行を遅らせた事情です。同じ話の中で両方が成り立ちます。

At 7:02–7:19, the gifts have not arrived in time because of a delay at the post office. In advance describes what Sydney did early. Held up describes an obstacle that slowed the later process. Both ideas can be true in the same story.

I bought the gift in advance. It got held up at the post office.と二文で言い直してみましょう。二つの訳語を別々に暗記するより、早い準備と予想外の出来事をつなげます。

Try retelling it in two new sentences: I bought the gift in advance. It got held up at the post office. You are connecting early preparation with an unexpected event, rather than learning two separate translations.

郵便局内で具体的に何が起きたかまでは、この場面から分かりません。遅れがあったという情報だけでも表現を理解できます。

This passage does not tell you exactly what happened inside the post office. The video establishes that there was a delay; that is enough context to understand the phrase.

状況から英語を思い出す

配送の途中で荷物が遅れ、予定どおりに届いていません。

Your parcel has not arrived on time because it was delayed at the post office.

My parcel got __________ at the post office.

答えと使い方を見る
held up

事情があって遅れたり、進行を妨げられたりしたこと。

Delayed or kept somewhere so that the next step cannot happen on time.

My parcel got held up at the post office.

荷物が郵便局で遅れました。

heldはholdの過去分詞です。got held upで遅れが生じたことを表します。詳しい原因は文脈で確認しましょう。

In got held up, got combines with held up to describe a delay. At the post office tells you where the delay happened, but does not explain its internal cause.

場面を変えて、自分の一文を作るChange the situation to make your own sentence

今日の出来事から選びましょう。朝食を変えたい、同じ曲をよく聞く、早めに予約する、注文を待っているなどです。最初は日本語で意図を確かめ、カードを見ずに英語表現を選びます。

Choose something real from today: wanting a different breakfast, listening to a song repeatedly, making an early reservation or waiting for an order. Say the idea in Japanese first, then choose a suitable English phrase without looking at the card.

答えを開いたら、解説でその表現が合う理由を確かめます。別のことをした後で戻り、状況から思い出してみましょう。練習が必要な部分を見つけるのであって、一度で動画全体を覚える必要はありません。

If you need to reveal the answer, read the explanation to check why the phrase fits. After doing something else, return and try recalling it from the situation. You are finding what needs more practice; you do not need to remember the entire video in one sitting.
