慣れた場所が好きで、思いがけない店に行くことになり、やりたい予定を先延ばしにする。一つの話でも、習慣、結果、延期では英語の表し方が違います。
You like familiar places, end up somewhere unexpected, and keep delaying a plan you want to try. Those three ideas belong to one story, but English expresses them in different ways. This lesson connects a habit, an outcome and a postponed action.
a cozy day in my life vlogでは、Sydneyが普段と違う運動や休日の予定を試します。0:49〜1:00、2:16〜2:31、4:14〜4:28を聞きましょう。個人の感想を生き方のルールにするのでなく、その場面の英語を学びます。
In a cozy day in my life vlog, Sydney tries a different workout and makes new plans for her day off. Use 0:49–1:00, 2:16–2:31 and 4:14–4:28. The article teaches the language of these moments; it does not turn personal reflections into rules for how you should live.
Creature of habit:話しながらの言い直しを聞くCreature of habit: a useful correction inside real speech
冒頭で、いつも同じカフェや店に行くから変化が欲しいと話します。0:49で表現の語順を逆にし、0:57で自分で直します。最初に聞いた形をそのまま覚えず、二行を続けて聞きましょう。
The opening explains why Sydney wants a change: she keeps visiting the same cafés, restaurants and shops. At 0:49 she reverses an expression, and at 0:57 she corrects herself. Listen to both lines rather than memorising the first version you hear.
a creature of habitは人の傾向を述べる表現で、診断や評価ではありません。いつも同じお茶を頼む、同じ道を通るなどの具体例を自分の一文に添えると、訳語だけより場面と結びつきます。
A creature of habit is a description of someone’s tendency. It is not a diagnosis or a judgement. In your own sentence, add one concrete example: ordering the same tea or taking the same route. That makes the expression more memorable than an isolated translation.
いつも同じお茶を頼む自分を、慣れた習慣が好きなタイプだと説明します。
You always order the same tea and describe yourself as someone who prefers familiar routines.
I'm a __________: I order the same tea every morning.
答えと使い方を見る
いつものやり方や選択を好む人。
A person who likes doing familiar things in a regular way.
I'm a creature of habit: I order the same tea every morning.
私はいつもの習慣を好むタイプで、毎朝同じお茶を注文します。
一人を表すのでcreatureの前にaを置きます。全体で傾向を表し、動物に例えているわけではありません。動画の直前の逆の語順は言い間違いです。
Keep a before creature when describing one person. The whole expression describes a tendency; it does not literally compare someone to an animal. The earlier reversed word order is a spoken slip.
Ended up:字幕をまたいで結果をつかむEnded up: follow the outcome across caption boundaries
2:16では運動のクラスで会った人におすすめを聞いたと話し、次の字幕でPaper Coffeeと店名が出ます。一行だけでは結果が完結しません。経緯と最終的な行き先をつなぐ表現です。
At 2:16 Sydney explains that she asked a person from the workout class for recommendations. The next caption names Paper Coffee. Reading only the first line leaves the result unfinished. The expression connects those events to where she eventually went.
end upは必ず悪い結果を表すわけではありません。ここではおすすめに従った訪問です。場所の例からWe ended up walking home.のような動作に変え、結果という意味を保ちながら後の文法が変わることを確認します。
End up does not always mean something went wrong. Here the visit follows a recommendation. Practise a neutral result first, then change the place to an action: We ended up walking home. Notice that the following grammar changes even though the idea of a final outcome stays.
予定を変えておすすめを聞いた後、結局駅の近くの小さなカフェへ行きました。過去の結果を伝えます。
After changing your plans and asking for a recommendation, you finally went to a small café near the station. Retell the result in the past.
We __________ at a small café near the station.
答えと使い方を見る
いろいろな経緯の末に、ある場所や結果に至ったこと。
Reached a place or result after a sequence of events.
We ended up at a small café near the station.
私たちは結局、駅の近くの小さなカフェに行きました。
過去に完了した出来事なのでendedです。atの後には場所を置きます。動作ならend up+動名詞で、We ended up walking home.のように言います。
Use ended for the completed past event. At introduces a place. For an action, use end up + -ing, as in We ended up walking home, not end up to walk.
Put them off:themが指すことを覚えるPut them off: remember what them replaces
4:14〜4:28では、行きたかった博物館と先延ばしにしてきた活動を話します。themはそれらを受けています。動詞だけでなく、代名詞が必要な理由もメモしましょう。
At 4:14–4:28 she talks about a museum she has wanted to visit and things she keeps postponing. Them points back to those activities. Keep that connection in your notes; otherwise you know the verb but lose the reason for the pronoun.
練習では博物館の訪問を二つの用事に変えます。複数なのでthem、一つならput it offにできます。両方を声に出し、代名詞を句動詞の間に置く形を覚えましょう。
The practice changes the museum visit to two errands. Because the objects are plural, them is useful. With one task, you could say put it off. Say both forms aloud and keep the pronoun between the two parts of the verb.
今日する用事が二つあります。その用事を後回しにしたくないと伝えます。
Two errands need doing today. You want to say you will not delay those tasks.
I have two errands to do, and I don't want to __________.
答えと使い方を見る
すでに話した複数の事柄を先延ばしにすること。
Delay doing the things already mentioned.
I have two errands to do, and I don't want to put them off.
用事が二つあり、先延ばしにしたくありません。
themは二つの用事です。この句動詞では代名詞をputとoffの間に置きます。ここでは行動の延期で、人を嫌な気持ちにさせる別の意味ではありません。
Them refers to the two errands. With this phrasal verb, a pronoun goes between put and off: put them off, not put off them. The meaning here is postpone an action, not discourage a person.
小さな変化を一つ話すTell a small story about a change
慣れた習慣、結局したこと、先延ばしにしたくない用事を一つずつ話します。Sydneyの一日全体を再現する必要はありません。自分の出来事で、時制と表現の後に続く形を確かめましょう。
Describe a familiar habit, one thing you eventually did and one task you do not want to delay. You do not need to reproduce Sydney’s whole day. Choose details you can explain honestly, then check the tense and the words after each expression.
答えを確かめる前に、復習で思い出してみましょう。後でカフェや用事を別の状況に変えます。忙しい日のレッスンも読んだなら、switch it upで習慣を変える表現と比べてみてください。
Use the review to retrieve before checking. Later, replace the café or errand with another situation. If you also read the busy-day lesson, compare changing a habit with switch it up: related ideas can appear in different sentence patterns.
最後の空欄は答えを見る前に試しましょう。各カードに意味、練習文、解説、元の場面を聞き直すボタンがあります。後で戻り、自分の一日の内容に変えてみてください。
Try the final blanks before opening the answers. Each card keeps the meaning, practice sentence, explanation and a button to replay the source scene. Return later and try again with a detail from your own day.
